Jackson is an Empath which means he is able to feel, alter, and harness other’s emotions through physical touch. Examples:

Can feel others pain, both physical and emotional and take it from them and into himself.

Can sense emotional auras in the air, which will often offset his own emotions

Gets overwhelmed incredibly easily and can lose control, which results in massive panic attacks.

Can lose control of abilities which cause his eyes to glow gold and bleed, causing him to center in on whoever is closest and either take all of their feeling, or give them all of what he feels. He doesn’t usually remember what happened during these spells

Raised in Las Vegas for most of his life, Jackson did not know much about his mother and knew nothing of his father. He knew his mom was a part of the X-Men, but that was about it. No matter the amount of research he did, he never really found out anything about her. She would visit sometimes when he was living with different foster families, but she never stuck around long enough for him to ask any questions.

He wasn’t in touch with what he could do until one day he had a complete mental breakdown at school in the middle of class when he was sixteen. He had a full blown panic attack and he kept saying he could feel the anxiety, stress, and depression in the air and his head would not stop pounding. Nobody believed him and thought he was high and they sent him home with a written note to his foster parents. He explained everything to them because he’d grown to trust them. It took them a moment to understand, but when they finally realized, they agreed to call Xavier’s School because it didn’t sound exactly normal to them. Anna was one of the ones who came and picked him up and he got accepted quickly into the school after a very short meeting with Charles Xavier. This was where he learned why he felt the way that he did, and that it was worse if he was touching anyone. He was devastated at the news, but quickly realized all that he could do was accept it and move on as best as he could.

He quickly learned though that he can’t really control it. If there is any physical touch, he can feel every emotion you might have bottled up. He can sense lies if he’s doing this as well, if there is an emotional reason behind hiding said lie. His ability is usually pretty overwhelming for him, so he does his best not to shake hands or let anyone really touch him. It’s an isolating part of being him, but through the years he has gotten quite used to it, and though it does put a damper on his relationship, he makes it work as best as he can by wearing gloves, long sleeves, and putting lots of blankets between him and Eli when they lay close to one another.

Like you might expect, he is a very emotional person and does not have much control over when he does get emotional. Simple things could make him tear up or get angry or become completely ecstatic in an instant. He used to say “Bipolar’s got nothing on me.” to try and make light of how erratic his emotions were. It’s because his emotions are heightened much more than the average person due to his mutation. A lot of people think he’s weird because of this lack of control, though you get used to it once you’re around him enough. Despite his inability to control himself, he found an interest in helping people and would often spend his time in hospitals, secretly taking on pain of patients so they might have some relief for a little while. No one ever knew what he was doing. But he did. And he always felt every bit of sickness and pain, but it was always worth it. SHIELD found out about him and recruited him to join their medical team because they believed he could be of some help, since they always had patients who could use some relief. He signed their contract after a few months of thinking and moved to the facility in hopes that he could be helpful.

He’s incredibly thankful for that choice, because the SHIELD facility is where he met the love of his life, and now fiance; Eli Stark after covering someone’s front desk shift one night. Eli was quiet, but Jack understood him and in turn, Stark returned the favor. Jackson never thought he would end up with anyone due to his limitations, but Eli understood limitations and didn’t seem to mind and asked Jackson to marry him, which he of course said yes to. Jackson definitely owes a lot to Eli now, as they have been through a lot together and Eli quite literally has saved his life more than once. One of those times being when they were kidnapped by a newly formed society focused on kidnapping mutants and experimenting on them. Eli broke them out but not soon enough to keep the men there from working on Jackson.

They got into his head, practically turned his abilities up and made them overwhelming to the point that Jack never feels completely in control. They are they reason he sometimes blacks out. They have been hunting him ever since he escaped and have attempted to kill him multiple times, claiming that they are not done with him yet, so their only hope is to either kill him, or capture him again. Either way, they have not been leaving him peacefully at all, which has been wreaking havoc in its own right on his emotions. He tries to deal with it, but he stressed about it a lot. For now though, he is trying to lay low and fix the damage they did to him and revert his powers to the way they are supposed to be, all while trying to just spend time with Eli and hopefully start planning their wedding before they get too caught up in life and forget.

Quirks and Habits:

Jackson is constantly wrapping his hand around his engagement ring, which lets off a pulse connected to Eli’s heartbeat. He finds comfort in feeling it, knowing that Eli is okay - especially if they are apart from one another.

Jackson is a crier and will cry in most situations, whether he is happy, excited, scared, sad, nervous, etc. He tries not to do it, but he is always so overwhelmed by emotion that he can’t help it.
