Connor always has been a fairly normal kid with a non-exciting life. Joining SHIELD hasn’t really even changed that either. But he was always much smarter than he ever even let on. He always absorbed information like a sponge and seemed to always understand the world and how many things worked. He was in gifted programs all through middle school and still to this day has never gotten anything less than an A even in classes he struggled with.
By the time he turned nine years old, his TS and his mutation both kicked in, the teleporting acting as his first tic. It scared his parents and himself horribly and the teleporting made him so sick he ended up in the hospital. That was where other tics started to happen. Most were physical and the main one was hitting his chest which has stuck with him to this day as his worst one.
The vocal tics started not long after, starting as random sounds and words before developing into nasty words and insults. He was taken out of school soon after this, his parents not wanting him to stay long enough to start getting bullied. So they homeschooled him, which ended up working out even better because it gave him more time to work and much more subjects to learn and practice.
He was taken to Xavier’s when he turned 10 and they helped him understand his mutation a bit better and gave him ways to control himself though they told him that with his neurological disorder, it would always be much harder. They offered him a place at the school and he turned them down and went home. He felt like he could learn so much more by himself, not liking the idea of always being around people because he knew how judgemental and harsh they could be. He started to self train for a few years until he met Phil Coulson inside a super market. An accidental zapping across the aisle showed Phil what he could do and he was referred to SHIELD at the age of 16. But he never heard anything from them. So he wrote to Phil constantly, asking about it, questioning it. A year later he was offered a spot and so he came to SHIELD to get what he calls “A sneak peek into the super hero life” even though he really doesn’t think he would ever become a hero. Nonetheless, he is incredibly excited about this new adventure, though nervous about what it might bring.
