Samuel portrays a rather quiet and observant personality to most people, though it is simply because he is often away in his own head, experiencing the world in such close detail that he can’t even begin to explain to anyone. Born with a near photographic memory, Samuel remembers most everything he comes in contact with, making him much more clever than he might ever let on.
While always coming across as quiet and friendly when spoken to, Samuel is actually rather arrogant and proud but withholds it from people so as to not scare them off because he’s been told it’s “Off-putting.” Never one to care much for personal relationships, Samuel is only just now trying to learn more about people than about the universe around them. The more he studies people, the easier he finds it to become to act more… Human. He still doesn’t know why it’s so hard to act like everyone would want him to, but he does find what they want rather stupid.
He’s always been quite a loner, finding more comfort in books than he ever did in people. They were always… Disappointing. They always let you down or abandoned you. There was never a constant, and Samuel needed a constant to hold onto… And books were always there no matter what so that was what he clung to.
Learning in general was his escape and he found the entire universe just full of trillions of possibilities that needed to be unlocked and he plans on unlocking every single one of them… Or at least as many as he can manage. He sees the world in every which way it can go, and he accredits much of that mindsight to his father and to his own abilities that had been passed down and learn
Abilities:
Able to open portals with his stolen sling ring.
Able to enter and control the mirror dimension
Can travel between different timelines using a certain spell, but cannot do it often because it can kill him if he doesn’t do it perfectly. He’s only done it 3 times in his life.
Has a photographic memory and is capable of reading 1,000 words per minute
All Samuel ever wanted was to be like his father and eventually become the next Sorcerer Supreme. He spent most of his childhood days at home alone, his mother always out working and his step-dad always drunk on the couch. He didn’t know Stephen for the first half of his life, though he did know who he was so he knew he was always destined for greatness.
When he was sixteen, he ran away from home and he went to New York City, traveling across the country just so he could hunt down his father and force him to teach him his magic so he could follow in his footsteps. Stephen finally caved in after refusing for over a year and sent his son to Kamar-Taj.
He was obsessed with learning and tried to be the best of the best, knowing he was much smarter than most of the people there. This arrogance and determination however was his downfall. He was told he would be a risk if he continued on the way he was, delving in magic he wasn’t fully trained for. He ignored their warnings and the next thing he knew, he was being sent home. They told him to come back when he would treat this training the way he was supposed to. Until then, they tried to keep him from magic. In a split decision, he created a portal and left before they could take his sling ring or any of his studies and research.
In his desperation to get away quickly and unnoticed, he tried casting a spell to hide himself from his father and the others, but not paying full attention, he accidentally knocked himself into a different timeline. The force of the unexpected travel caused him to go unconscious, and when he woke up he was in New York City, bedridden in a hospital… things were different. He didn’t exist in this timeline… He couldn’t prove to anyone and when he searched for his father, his dad didn’t even recognize him. He realized what he’d done and he tried his hardest to reverse it. He tried twice more. He wasn’t able to get home the first try, and the next time he ended back up in the timeline where he didn’t exist again. All three times had exhausted him and the last time had nearly killed him and left him in a coma for 3 months. He decided he would wait before trying to get home again. He was eventually released from the hospital and was sent to a safe house. It took him a few years to actually get on his feet and forge an identity for himself. Now five years later, he lives a normal and comfortable life in a studio apartment in New York City, practicing his magic, and still trying to muster the courage to find his father in this timeline and convince him to help him.
